Do I have to be a customer or partner to join HCC?
No, everyone can view the discussions, but to participate, you must become a member by joining and logging into HCC. Members can post questions, answer questions, and comment on content. There is no charge to join, and no in-app purchases!
I work for a competitive company can I still join?
Yes, there is a lot of great technical information here that is open to everyone.. that includes YOU!
If I am a customer are there any benefits?
Absolutely, if you log in with your company's email address so we can verify you are a customer you will get access to unique content and as a small token we put an orange circle around your profile picture.
Why can't I post questions?
You need to sign up for a free Hortonworks Community Connection account. Once you do this you can ask questions, up/down vote, and contribute content to the Community. In addition, you can begin establishing your reputation in HCC to gain access to additional resources within the HCC
Why can't I publish an Article or a Repo
You need to be logged in and have sufficient reputation points to post a repo or an article. All posted articles or repos will be go into a moderation queue and moderators will review it and either reject or publish it.
How do I change my profile picture?
Perform the following task to change your profile picture:
Can all users in my community see my email address?
No. Take a look at another user's profile and you'll notice that an email address is not listed. The same goes for users who look at your profile.
Can I change my email address?
Yes you can, just go under your profile and Edit Details. Put in your new email address
How can I view all the questions and answers I've interacted with in my community?
Click on your username, in the top-right of the page, then click on profile. Scroll down and you will see activity.
Will old items on my activity list eventually expire?
No, our current plan is that all your history will remain preserved. We might change this at a future date.

Tracks are broad content areas that help keep HCC organized into areas that the community feel are broad subject areas.

This can happen in a few ways, but the more you contribute valuable content the more ponts you will earn. Examples of activities that earn points:

What are the user levels in HCC?
As members participate in HCC, points are awarded based on activity, content contributed, quality of the answers and more. These levels should help you identify community member expertise. In addition, as your level grows, you will be granted additional capabilities on the site. For instance at the Expert level you can Create Articles and Repos, and at the Guru level you can edit almost anything! Levels are as follows:

How do I know that an answer is accepted?
Accepted answers are displayed with a green background in HCC. This indicates that the original poster, or Guru or Expert in HCC, has noted this as a valid solution to the initial question.
h3> How do I make a word, phrase a URL link to another site in my questions and answers?
Simply highlight the word that you want made into a URL and then click the icon that looks like a little earth. Then, enter the URL and click OK. The URL will be noted at the bottom of the text box, but it will not appear once the question or answer is posted.

Where can I report offensive users?
If you see behavior that is rude, offensive, unproductive, or otherwise inappropriate for the site, let the moderators know by flagging the content (use the gear icon next to the content and click on report).
Who moderates the content on HCC?
Based on the points you earn you can achieve moderation privaleges. In addition Hortonworks play this role.
You play a role in not only asking questions, but also answering questions and submitting content as well. Hortonworkers are a key part of the community as well and can be identified by the green circle around their avatar
Is there a way that I can get promoted to moderator status?
Definitely, though this may take time. The best way to get promoted to moderator is to a) provide good answers to others, eventually earning a number of badges, and b) make friends with site moderators.
How can I subscribe or unsubscribe to notifications?
You can get more or less notifications by going to your profile and clicking User Tools, then Email Notification Settings. In that area, you are able to specify what notifications you do or do not want.
